Global communications and web directory entry
It was on the 10th of March 1876 that Alexander Graham Bell transmitted speech electronically for the first time, by sending an order to Thomas Watson, who was his assistant. It is from this invention that the telephone has altered the way we live life in this modern age. When telephones were first invented they were seen as a luxurious item, which only the wealthy had in their homes. Primarily telephones were used for business purposes only. Most people in the 1960’s and 1970’s did not even have a telephone, a telephone then was seen as a luxury, a telephone today is seen as one of life’s necessities. A telephone is used for everything we do in business and life, it is used to access the internet, to socialise and for emergencies. By the 1980’s most people had a telephone in their home, but these were not usually bought, they were usually rented from the operator (ie BT or AT&T). There were far more public phones around in the 1980’s, you would usually expect to find one within walking distance from home. However this is no longer necessary, and the upkeep of telephone boxes is costly and often unnecessary as most people now have use of mobile telephones.

But global communications don’t just stop at the use of internet, mobile and landlines, they can extend into certain luxuries within the home. CCTV is used now, not only in businesses but in homes, were close circuit television is wired to the outside of the house along with a telephone, so the occupiers within the property can see exactly who is knocking at the door. Electrics within the home can be made fully automated and heating and lighting can switch on from the touch of a button on a remote.
The internet is one of life’s biggest revolutions, this little gadget can keep the business world trading day and night, and with the use of email, important documents can be sent to and fro to form a deal. It was never forecast that the internet would be as popular as it is today, but most people now in business have an email address, and without a computer system business often grinds to a holt. No longer are we reliant on the postal service to deliver important documents, it can be done in a flash over the world wide web.
The internet has also made shopping and finding certain items easier, with the use of search engines and clever tools like web directory (Webkatalog). A web directory enables to user to find a subject of choice ie. Mobile Phones and this will be listed under a category, the category may be communications for instance, and the subcategory might be telephones. Many companies on the world wide web have a web directory entry (Webkatalog eintragen), as they are a very popular way of finding things.
